Tally Youngblood's birthday was right around the corner. Her best friend had already received the "pretty" operation to go to the other side of the city leaving Tally behind waiting for the day she turns sixteen. Everyone is considered ugly before the operation so Tally couldn't wait to leave behind her squinty eyes and ugly face for good. Just a few days before her birthday, she meets a new friend called Shay. Shay had very different opinions on turning pretty that Tally had never even considered before. After spending a lot of time with Shay, Tally learned the not so pretty reality of having those vulnerable eyes, lean legs, and babyface. Was turning "pretty" really what she wanted for herself? I think this book represents the pillar courage because of the challenges Tally had to face and the hard decisions she had to make. I would rate this book 5/5 stars and would recommend it to anyone.
