Stargirl By Jerry Spinelli Reviewed by Denisa

Leo Borlock loved porcupine neckties. When he and his Mom moved to Mica, Arizona, Leo’s Uncle Pete gave him his porcupine necktie. For several years he only had one porcupine necktie until his 14th birthday. Leo was reading the newspaper where in the family section it said kids’ birthdays, so Leo’s Mom decided to put that he liked porcupine neckties. Then, on his porch there was a gift containing a porcupine necktie.

Leo goes to the first day of school. He meets this new girl named Stargirl. Little does he know that Stargirl will bring joy to the whole school, singing Happy Birthday, strumming her ukulele at Lunch for people’s birthdays, cheerleading on the basketball team which ended up having a winning streak, and more. Then things turn upside down. What happens? Find out!

The Pillar for this book is respect because even though Stargirl even forced herself to not be her becuause of the school, in the end most students respected her and just became themselves.

I think a look-alike for this book is “Schooled” because they’re both different from the rest and they have the same or similar themes.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 because it inspired me to be myself and kept me stuck to the  book all day.
