The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau Reviewed by Laya Robinson

Summary: The City of Ember is a story about 2 main characters name Doon Harrow and Lina Mayfleet. They lived in a city called the city of Ember surrounded by darkness in a post-apocalyptic world. The people in the city of Ember suffer from food shortage and low electricity because the government is corrupted, and they are not helping the citizens in Ember. Lina accidentally found instructions to get out of Ember. Doon and Lina must follow the clues and find the way out.

I think the main characters Doon and Lina’s actions describe the SMUS middle school Pillar “Courage”. When they found out that the Mayor was stealing supplies from the citizens of Ember, they told the guard and confronted the Mayor because it wasn’t right. Lina and Doon are only 12, but they speak up to authority for the better. They also traveled outside of Ember by themselves which is so brave because Ember is the only place they know, and it is their home.

There is a book called “Hunger Games” written by Suzanne Collins. This book is also taking place in a post-apocalyptic world and going against the corrupted government. So, if you enjoy the city of Ember, you might enjoy this book as well.

I rate the book 4 starts out of 5 because this book has intriguing story lines and interesting characters and very exciting adventures.
