The Wild Robot by Peter Brown Reviewed by Fraser Tuck

This novel centres around Roz, a robot stranded on a deserted island. She meets new animals that help her feel ‘wild’ and at home. With her new animal friends she learns how to adapt to the environment and improve it. Her friends come to her aid when robots from Roz’s maker come to take her away. In the end Roz decides that keeping her animal friends safe is more important to her than staying in the home she has become used to.

Roz shows courage the most out of all of the Middle School Pillars. She demonstrates this when she introduces herself to the unfamiliar animals. Roz also demonstrates courage when she goes out into the cold in the winter to build more lodges so the animals can stay warm. My last example of Roz showing courage is when she decides it is best for her and the animals if she leaves the island.

Three read-alikes that I found similar are Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, The Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell, and The Cay by Theodore Taylor. The Cay and Hatchet have resilient main characters like Roz. The Wolf Wilder has a main character that helps animals.

I would rate The Wild Robot 4 out of 5 stars because it is a really fun book to read.
