The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson Reviewed by Cindy Chen

I read the book The Goldfish Boy by Lisa Thompson. This was such an amazing book and it was very well written. This book was about a boy with OCD. OCD is a disorder that forces a person to do something or else they feel extremely uncomfortable, which in Matthew's case forces him to clean until his hands start to bleed. Matthew does not like going outside with all of its germs and possible ways to get sick. He prefers to stay inside and watch everything else happening outside. He knows when his neighbour will go outside and walk his dog or when they will come home from their annual shopping trip, but one day, disaster strikes. When a toddler goes missing and he's the only one that saw it he must help. All is left is a piece of cloth and blood. Matthew does not want to go but he has to. Will he be able to conquer his OCD and go outside and help them find the toddler or just stay quiet and let his OCD get the better of him?

I would rate this book 5/5 stars because it was so well written and I really enjoyed how it was so real and made me feel like I was standing to the side watching everything in this story unfold. The pillar I would give Matthew is courage because it is not easy to do what he has done. OCD might not sound that deadly but you need to have it to know how scary it is. A book that I would recommend that is similar to this is Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. It is about a girl named Ally Nickerson with Dyslexia and just moved to a new school. Thanks for reading my book review.
